SECOND CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH ACTORS IN THE VEGETABLE VALUE CHAIN HELD
Vegetable production in certain regions of Serbia plays a significant role for small farmers, so the Network for Rural Development of Serbia, based on a developed methodology, chose this value chain as one of the two chains for which a consultative process will be carried out with the aim of assessing the state and prospects for its development . The target group are small producers who are engaged in the primary production of vegetables, and a smaller part in their processing into traditional products, such as ajvar.
The consultative meeting related to the value chain of vegetable production was held on November 22, 2024. in the village of Brestovac near Leskovac. The participants involved in the production and processing of vegetables prepared a value chain analysis and a SWOT analysis with the professional support of the Network's representatives. Based on the current situation and SWOT analysis, possible solutions for the development of this value chain were considered, and recommendations were defined.
The participants pointed out that in some segments of vegetable production, primarily potato production, there has been a decline in the volume of production in the south of Serbia, and that one of the key reasons is the problem with product placement. On the other hand, greenhouse production and processing of vegetables into traditional products, such as ajvar, brings better opportunities for placement and earnings of agricultural farms.
The meeting was attended by 11 participants from the area of Leskovac and the Network for Rural Development of Serbia.
The consultative meeting was realized within the framework of the projects "Academy Farm to Fork for the green Western Balkans - our common European future", co-financed by the European Union and "Active youth - dialogue on Green Agriculture policies and the experience of the EU Common Agricultural Policy" co-financed by the Ministry of European integration of the Republic of Serbia.
